Sherry's Bait & Barbecue At Lake Lanier Satisfies Appetite For Both Fish And Humans!

 Sherry's Bait & Barbecue

For the past couple of months, as I've driven down Dawsonville Highway and across the top end of Lake Lanier, I have witnessed the growth of a fledgling new business! About midway between Dawsonville and Gainesville where restaurants are hard to find, and there just isn't much but the lake and a four lane highway, hungry visitors can now stop at the all new Sherry's Bait & Barbecue at Lake Lanier.

The area of Sardis Road off of Dawsonville Highway is not packed with places to eat or for that matter buy bait. At first glance, I thought this might be a strange idea. But it really works! Today, I stopped in for a quick lunch pickup. I snapped a few photos as I always do, and happened across Terry and Sherry, the new owners, working hard to please their customers. The place was really hopping with a steady stream of hungry visitors, and people stopping in to load up with bait before hitting the water.

My lunch today?  I just had to try the pulled pork barbecue sandwich with a traditional side of baked beans and a little bit of cole slaw. Sherry packed the goods up for me in a small paper bag, and I was on my way in just a few minutes. The short drive to my nearby lake home did not take long. As I set things out on the lunch table and unwrapped all of the goods, I was taken aback by the size of the sandwich and large portions! All of the food was fantastic, and I must say a bit unique. I chose the Carolina vinegar-based barbecue sauce, the sandwich was piled high with nicely smoked pork, the baked beans were perfectly tangy and had a wonderful flavor, the slaw was fresh crunchy and very good! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, and I can assure you that I will be back soon. Especially now that I know that Sherry's is serving biscuits for breakfast!

I'm sure this little place is going to grow quickly as it is right on the major highway between Dawsonville and Gainesville. You simply can't miss it! And I really want to send a tremendous shout out and thank you to the owners for taking a chance and opening up a restaurant where we so desperately needed it along this long stretch of highway! Stop in and give Sherry's Bait & Barbecue a try! I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Friday Fun At Lake Lanier! Lunch At Moonie's Texas Barbecue In Flowery Branch!

Just to start this off, let me say that I have been hankering to try this barbecue joint in Flowery Branch.  So I was ecstatic when one of my clients suggested that we give Moonie's a try.  Being from Texas, my client knows Texas barbecue and highly recommended Moonie's.

Friday lunch was indeed special as we met at Moonie's to sample some of the faves.  WOW!  I  was blown away by this little place on Atlanta Highway in Flowery Branch.  The place was neat, clean and had a great setting.  Moonie's offers both indoor and outdoor dining.  We decided to stay indoors and enjoy the fantastic aromas inside this great barbecue restaurant.  I tried and fell in love with the brisket plate with potato salad.  Holy cow!  Yes, my favorite barbecue place in the entire Atlanta area is now proclaimed.  Who would think that a small joint in Flowery Branch could produce some of the best barbecue in the area?  But, I gotta' say, Moonie's delivered the goods!  The brisket was the best!  Three sauces on the table, with one being a delicious mustard based sauce.  They even serve some great Texas brew.  Man was this barbecue good!  And living in Georgia for many years, I'm not hesitant to say that this was some of the best barbecue I have EVER had!

Give Moonie's Texas Barbecue a try.  You will love the food and the atmosphere.  This place is sure to become a Lake Lanier area hot spot.  Actually, based on the parking lot during lunch hour, it may already be a hot spot!

Lunch Spots Around Lake Lanier

As a realtor on Lake Lanier, I travel all areas around the lake on a daily basis. Last week, my travels took me north of Gainesville to preview a home located near Hwy. 129. I have driven this stretch of highway hundreds of times, and I must admit that I have never tried Johnny's Bar-B-Que! Well, last week was the end of the temptation. The place is practically an institution. It's everything a great bar-b-que joint should be. Lots of pickup trucks, expanded gravel parking lot, two buildings (one for cooking and one for eating), a lot of lunch patrons, and great food. It's a simple menu of sandwiches and lunch plates. The usual pork, chicken, or beef, and of course ribs and Brunswick stew. I did my share of chowing, and I can guarantee you that I'll be returning frequently! This little place knows bar-b-que and it is a great place to eat and watch the locals. Don't miss this stop next time you're in Gainesville. You won't be disappointed!
